Bulb Capsule was a work released by GreenCapsule when it was founded in 2014, transforming discarded or recycled tungsten filament bulbs into a miniature moss bonsai.

First, the tungsten filament bulb (5cm wide x 10cm high) is disassembled, then moss and decorative elements are inserted through an opening less than 1.5cm in diameter to create a scene.

Bulb Capsule is easy to care for and very resilient. The bulb provides the moss with a greenhouse-like environment, so even people who are not good at taking care of plants can handle it easily.

Everyone's growing environment is different; you need to learn to observe.

For plants, when first brought to a new home, they usually need some time to adapt to the new environment. The more the environment matches their habits, the faster they adapt.

Observe the plant's changes more; taking photos for records is also a good method, allowing you to compare differences after a period of cultivation.

Below is a summary of care points for the Bulb Capsule:

  • Moss breathes and absorbs water through its leaves, so you should let it absorb moisture by misting. (Article about how moss absorbs water:https://www.greencapsulehk.com/post/ep-02-the-facts-of-how-to-keep-moss-green)

  • Although humidity changes little inside the bulb and water evaporates more slowly, it is still recommended to add small amounts of water from time to time, allowing the moss to gradually adapt to the environment inside the bulb.

  • The bulb's glass is relatively thin, and the internal temperature is directly affected by the external environment, so when there is a large temperature difference between inside and outside, a lot of condensation will appear. Be careful to avoid high-temperature locations (above 30°C) such as direct sunlight, and places with abrupt changes like directly facing an air-conditioner vent.

  • Remember not to add too much water (if there is free water moving at the bottom inside the bulb), as this will make the moss prone to molding and even dying. And when the moss turns light green, you must mist it. This is because when moss is dry it turns light green and enters a dormant state to conserve moisture; just mist it and it will return to a vibrant green.

  • If conditions permit, for the water source we recommend using filtered water or tap water that has been left to stand overnight (so the chlorine/fluorine has dissipated).

  • Weak sunlight (diffused light) is sufficient; do not expose it to strong direct sunlight. The optimal growth temperature is between 15°C and 25°C, and the survival temperature is between 0°C and 40°C. • With proper care it can survive for several years or more.
