How did you first hear about — or why did you decide to buy — a Barrel plant light?
D: I have been into plants for several years, initially collecting caudiciforms and agaves. After about six months to a year, I became aware of the importance of light and air circulation. That was when I first encountered Barrel’s fan, which became my first Barrel product. From then on, I gradually added several fans to improve air circulation and help prevent the root rot that is common in Hong Kong’s humid climate. Within the limits of my budget and living conditions, I wanted to give my plants the best possible growing environment so they could look their best.

Before using Barrel equipment, what challenges did your plants or growing environment face? What prompted you to make a purchase?
D: The environment was too humid and air circulation was poor, which led to root rot and even plant death. Yellowing leaves and spots were the earliest warning signs, so I realised I needed better growing equipment to create a more suitable environment.

When you first started using or adjusting the equipment, was there anything that surprised you or left a strong impression?
D: My expectations were not especially high at first, but I was confident these products would benefit plant growth. After all, plants cannot thrive in an unsuitable environment.

Since you began using Barrel products, what have you been most satisfied with — or found most challenging?
D: I am very satisfied with how easy Barrel products are to set up as a system. I now have several Aechmea fans, a ROKI Octagon, an adjustable lamp arm, and a Tsukuyomi plant light. I especially appreciate their minimalist design, even though much cheaper alternatives can be found on Taobao. People often say there is a reason Amateras and Tsukuyomi cost more: they genuinely help plants show their best condition.
What role do these lights play in your life or space? What feelings or changes have they brought?
D: I live alone and want a home with the minimalist character of MUJI while still being full of greenery. That is why I keep looking for ways to improve how my living space looks and feels. Barrel products help bring out the strengths of my home and make me feel calm and comfortable.
What advice would you give someone who is considering a plant light or wants to improve their growing environment?
D: I would recommend a plant light to help plants grow healthier and stronger. Without suitable nutrition and growing conditions, plants cannot reach their best form. For example, agaves can easily become etiolated in insufficient light, which spoils their shape, so a suitable lighting setup is important.
